About the adoption process

(PLEASE READ)..

  • Minimum age to adopt is 21.
  • We DO check vet references if there are other pets in the home.  If existing pets in the home are not up to date on vaccines & flea/tick/heartworm prevention this will result in automatic denial.
  • Fill out the application in it’s entirety – failure to do so will result in automatic denial. Once submitted you will receive a confirmation email when someone from our team pulls the application.
  • Please ensure those listed as your references know we will be reaching out to them.
  • Everyone in the home must meet the dog if a meet and greet is scheduled, including all pets.
  • Home visits are required. By signing the application, you are agreeing to a meet and greet and do not hold Wags & Wiggles responsible for any incidents during such.

Meet Lucy! Lucy is believed to be a Mini Australian Shepherd, and at just 12 weeks old and barely 5 pounds, she has already shown us just how capable a tiny puppy can be. Lucy is blind and mostly deaf, but she doesn't know she's different. She has learned her way around her foster home, plays happily with the other dogs, keeps her crate tidy, and is learning to go potty outside. She is curious, playful, affectionate, and incredibly smart. But loving Lucy also means understanding that she will have lifelong special needs. Because Lucy cannot rely on sight or hearing to navigate the world, she must be adopted into a home with another confident, well-adjusted dog. That dog will become an important source of security and guidance as she grows, helping her learn routines, navigate new situations, and feel safe. A securely fenced yard will also be required. For Lucy, a fence isn't simply a preference - it is an essential safety measure. She will never be a dog who can safely wander an unfenced yard or be trusted off leash. Lucy currently uses her mouth and teeth quite a bit to communicated and explore, as puppies do, so we are recommending no young children, especially considering how tiny and vulnerable she is. We know Lucy's perfect home may take a little more searching. She needs someone patient enough to teach her through touch, routine, scent, and consistency. Someone willing to make accommodations throughout her life - not just while she is a cute five-pound puppy. But in return, you get to watch a little dog who experiences the world differently learn that it is safe, predictable, and full of people who love her. Lucy doesn't need anyone to feel sorry for her. She needs someone willing to believe in her - and give her the structure and security she needs to thrive. Lucy's forever home must have: A confident, friendly resident dog...A securely fenced yard...mature children (if any)...and patience and willingness to accommodate a blind/deaf dog throughout her lifetime. I'm 13 years old, slightly larger than a loaf of bread, and I've officially reached the age where I've earned the right to have opinions. Apparently...my opinions got me returned. My crimes? I object to nail trims. Passionately. If you've ever met a Chihuahua, you'll know this isn't exactly groundbreaking behavior. I also refused to potty on astroturf after my family moved. Listen, I spent 13 years learning that grass means bathroom. Fake grass? That's patio carpet. I'm not falling for that. So here I am, looking for a retirement home where someone appreciates a tiny old lady who knows exactly what she likes. Here's what you do get with me: A loyal little shadow Plenty of cuddles, once I decide you're worthy A lifetime of hilarious side-eye when the nail clippers come out. (do you expect anything less??) Enough sass to keep life interesting. I'm not asking for much. Just a soft bed, a human with a sense of humor, and preferably an actual patch of grass for my bathroom breaks. I'll even tolerate the occasional nail trim....eventually....after I've filed my formal complaint. At 13 years old, I deserve a family that understands that senior dogs come with a few quirks - and that those quirks are exactly what make us lovable. If you're looking for perfection, keep scrolling. If you're looking for a tiny queen with a big personality who just wants to spend her golden years loved, I'm waiting.
